eMemory subsidiary PUFsecurity is partnering with the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) to co-develop an advanced hardware security platform, powered by PUF (Physically Unclonable Function) technology. This SoC development platform will be further validated on TSMC’s advanced process nodes and serve as a solid foundation for future academic and research endeavors.
By integrating cutting-edge semiconductor design with practical security training resources, this collaboration aims to strengthen Taiwan’s semiconductor security infrastructure and accelerate the development of hands-on talent in the field of hardware security.
At the core of the platform is a TSRI-designed SoC embedded with PUFcc (Cryptographic Coprocessor) IP from PUFsecurity, built on NeoPUF technology. The IP enables on-chip key generation, device authentication, and Hardware Root of Trust (HRoT) functionalities, while supporting a complete suite of industry-standard cryptographic algorithms. The platform provides a trustworthy foundation for both development and education in secure chip design.
PUFsecurity leads the advancement of semiconductor security through its full-stack hardware security solutions. Leveraging NeoPUF—developed by its parent company eMemory and widely known as the “Holy Grail of Security” for its exceptional randomness, reliability, and unclonability—PUFsecurity delivers production-proven IPs that serve as the foundation for secure chip design across a range of applications.
Recognizing the need to bridge cutting-edge technology with talent development, PUFsecurity launched PUFacademy in 2019 to train future leaders in chip security. Through PUFacademy, PUFsecurity has transformed years of field-proven expertise into structured, hands-on learning modules that help students, engineers, and researchers develop practical skills and pursue careers in security-focused IC design.
Complementing the platform, PUFacademy will offer a series of hands-on curriculum modules covering topics such as PUF fundamentals, secure silicon IP design, security validation workflows, and real-world applications. Tailored for university faculty, students, and security researchers, the combined platform and curriculum are designed to enhance practical security competence across Taiwan’s chip design ecosystem.
Government-backed initiative driving local trust infrastructure
This platform marks Taiwan’s first government-sponsored PUF-based education and validation initiative built on advanced process nodes. It represents a significant milestone in Taiwan’s PUF-based hardware security development and talent pipeline strategy.
“PUF technology is redefining the standards of chip security,” said Dr. Charles Hsu, Chairman and CEO of PUFsecurity. “We’re proud to partner with TSRI to extend PUF-based solution into the education domains, building a scalable and actionable platform that fosters world-class security talent. This is more than research—it’s an investment in Taiwan’s competitive future.”
Academic research related to the platform is already underway at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and National Central University, highlighting active academic engagement and signaling strong momentum for the platform’s technical exploration and adoption.
The platform is currently available to academic and research institutions. Related courses and collaboration programs will launch in the coming months, forming a cornerstone of Taiwan’s next generation secure chip design ecosystem.
